Didsbury High School opens the doors to its very first students
We’re delighted to announce that Didsbury High School opened its doors to more than 200 excited students today (3rd September 2019).
The school, part of the growing Laurus Trust, is initially taking 210 Year 7 pupils (11-12 year olds), with further intakes added each academic year. The school will eventually also have a sixth form of 300 students.
Headteacher Dr David Woolley said the new school would follow the ‘unashamedly academic’ ethos of all Laurus Trust schools and help students to open the door to the future of their choice.
He said: “We are very excited to bring a Laurus Trust education to the young people of Didsbury.
“We intend to provide an environment in which students can really flourish. Although we will be ‘unashamedly academic’, we realise that to produce truly rounded, capable young people, academic success alone is not enough. Our electives programme and extracurricular options aim to build on students’ strengths and interests.”
Designed by architects Pozzoni and built by BAM Construction, state-of-the-art Didsbury High School is the latest addition to the Laurus Trust family. The multi-academy Laurus Trust, based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, already has Cheadle Hulme High School – the best-performing state secondary in Stockport, Cheadle Hulme Sixth Form, Laurus Cheadle Hulme, Laurus Ryecroft in Tameside, Cheadle Hulme Primary School and Nursery, Gorsey Bank Primary in Wilmslow and a teaching school, The Altius Alliance. This month (September 2019) it also took over the running of Hazel Grove High School in Stockport.
Dr Woolley said the school would follow in the footsteps of its sister secondary Cheadle Hulme High School, delivering the same outstanding education. CHHS has been deemed Outstanding in all areas in its last two Ofsted inspections and this year achieved its best ever A-Level and GCSE results.
