Our SEND Offer

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) offer during transition means that any child identified by their primary school as having additional needs will be offered an enhanced package of support. On this page, we explain some of the support available and outline what will happen over the coming months to help ensure a successful transition to Didsbury High School.

We have an extensive Student Support team, and every member of staff shares a commitment and passion for helping all learners. Our leadership team has a wealth of experience in SEND and brings a wide range of knowledge and expertise. These are the staff you will first meet in the SEND department, and Mr Sarkissian will lead the transition process.

The Transition Process

The SEND team is currently meeting with primary schools to discuss individual children. These meetings typically involve the SEND Lead, class teachers and the Head of Year. Once these meetings have taken place, we will be in touch to arrange some additional school visits after the half-term holiday.

During these additional transition visits, we will:

• Meet with parents/carers and children, and begin the process of creating our personalised profiles for teachers, known as School Focused Plans (SFPs)
• Discuss the transition process and answer any questions you may have
• Provide a tour of the school with a member of staff
• Carry out some quick literacy screening to help us plan class organisation
• Identify any specific arrangements that may be needed for the whole-school Transition Day in July

In September, we will hold a SEND event for parents and carers at the start of the term. We really look forward to meeting with you.

We know that working together to co-produce individual plans for your child will help them become a successful student at Didsbury High School. We will also share printed copies of our transition booklets during these meetings.
