Students at Didsbury High School dazzled us with their talent in this year’s unforgettable production of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! – the classic musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist.

The show, which ran for three consecutive nights, featured a large ensemble cast and orchestra of talented students who brought the streets of Victorian England to life with acting, singing, dancing and musical talent.

The musical tells the story of Oliver, a malnourished orphan who escapes from a workhouse and joins a gang of pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin.

When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in.

Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.

After the success of last year’s production, we were eager to make this show even better.

This year’s production was our biggest yet, with Oliver! being our first full length musical and our first show with a live orchestra!

Our talented student and staff musicians took the production to another level, bringing a true and full musical experience to our auditorium.

The cast, crew, and musicians presented an amazing show and were met with a roaring crowd and massive round of applause each night.

The Production Team praised students for their hard work and dedication throughout the rehearsal process:

“They have all demonstrated great perseverance, optimism and courage throughout the intense process and have produced a performance of outstanding quality.”

Oliver! was a huge success and we’re immensely proud of everyone who was involved.

We would like to say a big thank you to each and every person who contributed to this show, and to our wonderful audience for their overwhelming support!
